Basilica of Teror

Teror is a place of pilgrimage for all the inhabitants of Gran Canaria, since the municipality welcomes in its Basilica to the Virgen del Pino, patron saint of the Diocese of the Canaries. It is in the Plaza del Pino (Pine Square) and the beginning of its construction dates from the year 1767, although subsequently it had to be restored on several occasions, especially in the years 1968 and 1969. The current Temple, with gable roof, has three naves with fourteen arches supported by columns and pillars. Its façade opens to three doors, and its side also have two entrances, windows and stained-glass windows depicting the mysteries of the Rosary

.

The current Temple occupies an area of 1131 m2. In its main façade are the three gates, and over them three windows with stained glass. Stone blue and yellow elements make up the whole building, from the balustrade, the pillars, the belfry and the perillions. The Yellow Gothic bell tower contrasts with the neoclassical style of the main façade in blue stone. The building as a whole presents a mix of styles from different eras, predominantly neoclassical façade and the Portuguese Gothic Tower.

The temple, with gable roof, is defined inside by side aisles framed by 14 arches supported by columns and pillars. The austere character of the interior contrasts with the lightness of its stained glass windows and the main altar of the Baroque style. The Basilica houses inside an important artistic heritage. Until the first decades of the 19th century the Church was used as a burial place.
The dome is one of the most identifying architectural elements of the Basilica, of great austerity exteriorly topped as headlamp or flashlight, and a great inner beauty. In the pendentives there are 4 ecclesiastical coats of arms that make reference to the distinctions of the temple throughout its history.
